Police are trying to trace the movements of 29-year-old Ira Shephard who has been identified as the man found dead in Tauranga Harbour on Saturday (8 December).

The 29-year-old Tauranga man was last seen by an associate on Friday, 30 November. It's not clear exactly how long he has been in the water so police are keen to know of Ira's movements and his demeanour in the days leading up to the 30th and since he was last seen.

A post mortem has been carried out today and his death remains at this stage unexplained as opposed to suspicious.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Iain Chapman at Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Media enquiries should be referred to District Communications Manager Kim Perks on 027 234 8256.
