Man Stabbed in Linwood

A man was stabbed in the suburb of Linwood in Christchurch this morning by a male Maori teenager on a red bicycle.

The incident happened between 8.45am and 8.50am on the corner of Gloucester Street and Stanmore Road.

The victim, a 24-year-old local man, was waiting to cross at the lights when he was approached by the offender on a bike who stabbed him in the stomach.

The victim has undergone surgery at Christchurch Public Hospital and is now in a stable condition.

Police are asking for members of the public who may have seen the incident on the corner of Stanmore Road and Gloucester Street to contact Detective Sergeant Wendy Riach at the Christchurch Central police station, 03 3637 400.
