New Plymouth Police can confirm that a body has been recovered near the Coastal Walkway opposite the Kawaroa Aquatic Centre this afternoon.
Police were called to the location at around 2:30pm after a member of the public discovered the body and notified Police.
The body, believed to be that of a male, was located on rocks down from the walkway.
Police say it is too early to determine whether the circumstances are suspicious.
A post-mortem will take place tomorrow as well as formal identification processes.
