1 min read

Police have released the name of the pedestrian killed after being struck by a truck on State Highway 1 near Timaru this morning.

She was Donna Lee Hunter, aged 41, of Washdyke.

Sergeant David Hinde of Timaru Police says the incident occurred at approximately 9.30 this morning near the intersection of SH1 and Falvey Road, north of Timaru.

Initial enquiries indicate that the woman had been walking or jogging south towards Timaru beside the highway, adjacent to the northbound lane, when she apparently veered onto the road and was struck by a truck and trailer travelling north.

No other vehicles were involved. The truck driver was not injured, but was very shaken by the incident, Sergeant Hinde says.

The Police Serious Crash Unit and Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit attended, and enquiries into the crash are continuing. Cordons around the scene were removed by around 1.30pm this afternoon.
