A 38 year old Christchurch male has been arrested and charged with the murder and sexual violation of Marie Davis on 5-6 April 2008. He will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas says that the arrest is the result of a continuing investigation over the last three weeks and she thanks the public and media for their support.
Detective Senior Sergeant Le Bas says that the Davis family have been told of the arrest and is pleased for them that in such a tragic situation, some part is nearing resolution.
"We still require sightings of a silver Mitsubishi Gallant in the area of the Waimakariri River and Northcote on the 6 April," she says. "The team confirmed that this vehicle is the one we have information on."
