Man seriously injured in attack

1 min read

A 19 year old man was seriously injured in an unprovoked attack in the early hours of Sunday morning in Central Christchurch.

Detective Sergeant John Gallagher says that the young man was outside Rydges Hotel on Oxford Terrace about 3.15am when he was attacked by a group of three or four males in their late teens - early twenties.

"As a result of the attack the injured man will be blind in one eye for life," says DS Gallagher. "This is a cowardly attack that has caused a permanent horrific injury. We know there were people in the area at the time and I'd appeal to any witnesses to the attack or anyone who has information to contact me please."

D S Gallagher can be contacted on phone 3637723.
