Police sergeant hit by a trailer

1 min read

A police sergeant was hit by a trailer as he was on traffic duty this afternoon. However Senior Sergeant Peter Stills says the driver may not even be aware he had hit someone.

About 2pm a recycling truck driving north on Papanui Road spilled a bulk load of cardboard, between Blighs and Harewood Roads, causing traffic to dodge around it. A police Sergeant stopped to direct traffic but was hit on his leg by a passing trailer.

Senior Sergeant Stills says the vehicle was a small, white flatbed truck, towing a Tandem galvanised trailer with a load of grass clippings.

"The driver was travelling south on Papanui Road and may not be aware he had hit some one," he says. "The sergeant is currently been attended to at a medical centre."

Could the driver or anyone who witnessed the incident please contact Senior Sergeant Stills at Papanui phone 374 1762.
