December Drink Driving

1 min read

In the first part of the ongoing December Drink Driving Operation, over 9,000 drivers were breath-tested in Christchurch last weekend. 65 were found to be over the legal limit and will face prosecution.

The drink drive operation will continue throughout December, with up to 20 staff dedicated full time to targeting drinking drivers, as well as other Road Policing staff.

Tactical Alcohol Group staff from other Districts of the South Island will be in Christchurch to assist with the operations and will greatly increase the chances of drivers being stopped and tested.

Acting Senior Sergeant Greg Murton says that he would re emphasise the importance of planning ahead.

"Arrange for a sober driver, or a taxi and avoiding driving when you have been drinking," he says.
