Aggravated robbery at Christchurch service station

Christchurch Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour near an Avonhead service station around the time of an early morning aggravated robbery to get in touch.

At approximately 12.50am this morning a male offender entered the premises of Caltex Russley, situated at the corner of Russley Road and Yaldhurst Road, presented a firearm at the attendant and demanded money from the till.  The staff member complied with the request, and the offender left the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The staff member was not injured during the incident.

The offender is described as being a Maori or Pacific Islander, of medium build and about 170cm in height.  He was wearing dark clothing and was disguised with a bandana covering the lower half of his face.  He was carrying a dark coloured bag.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the scene and surrounding areas.   Anyone in the area around the time of the incident and who may have seen suspicious activity can contact Detective Sergeant Grant Collins on (03) 363 7577 or alternatively information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
