Aggravated Robbery - Maungatapere, Northland

Police have arrested and charged two people following an aggravated robbery in Maungatapere this morning.

A 17-year-old man has allegedly entered the Gasoline Alley petrol station on State Highway 14 at around 7.15am. He was in the possession of a knife and demanded cigarettes from a staff member.

Before he could take any he has fled the store and got into a waiting vehicle which was allegedly stolen. This was being driven by his 16-year-old co-offender.

No one was injured in the incident.

Shortly after, police spotted the vehicle and arrested the two men. Both have been charged with aggravated robbery and will appear in the Whangarei Youth Court.

No further information is available at this stage.
