A man being sought in relation to the attempted abduction of a 13-year old Timaru girl at Washdyke on Tuesday has been arrested.

Blaine Ross Hughes, aged 20, of Washdyke, was located and arrested without incident in Timaru just after 6am this morning [Saturday 7 December] after information was received from a member of the public.

He was in an Isuzu Bighorn vehicle which had been reported stolen earlier in the week.

He appeared in the Timaru District Court this morning on charges of unlawful taking and injuring with intent to injure, and was remanded in custody to 19 December.

Detective Senior Sergeant Marion Neill says further charges are likely.

“Police are grateful for the assistance of the public in helping us to locate this man.”
