Arrest made following Highbury, Palmerston North incident

Palmerston North Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in relation to an incident that occurred in Highbury on Tuesday, 29 August.

Police were called to reports of shots fired on Ronberg Street at 5.14pm on Tuesday evening.

A 28-year-old Palmerston North man was admitted to Palmerston North hospital with three gunshot wounds to his stomach. He is likely to be discharged from hospital later today.

A 27-year-old Palmerston North man will be appearing in Palmerston North District Court this afternoon on a charge of discharging a firearm with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Police have had an excellent response from the public so far and would like to thank them for their assistance during this ongoing investigation.

Police are still seeking a second person in relation to the incident and ask that anyone with information comes forward.

In particular, we believe 25-year-old Levin man Wheturangi Tauhore can assist with our enquiries.

We urge him to come forward and ask that anyone with information on his whereabouts contacts Palmerston North CIB on 06 351 3896.
