Te Kuiti Police are crediting the public’s assistance in a quick arrest following a serious assault overnight.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead, Western Waikato CIB, said a 20 year old Te Kuiti man has been arrested and charged with Wounding and will appear in the Hamilton District Court on Tuesday.

“Thanks to information received from the community our officers made an arrest earlier today”.

The 45 year old victim is now in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital.

The victim was located just after 7pm on Sunday evening, after officers attended a nearby disorder incident, involving people fighting in a nearby street.

Enquiries have established that the two incidents were not connected.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we still want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this assault.” Mr Whitehead said.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact Te Kuiti Police on (07) 878 1450.
