Statement attributable to Superintendent Bruce Bird

At approximately 1:30am this morning Police located Rollie James Heke at an address in the Kaingaroa Forest township.

Heke was arrested without incident and without undue risk to the community.

He will be held in custody to appear before in the Rotorua District Court this morning. When he appears in court Heke will be facing charges in relation to outstanding warrants on methamphetamine related offending. Further charges are likely.

Heke was wanted by Police following a firearms incident in Morrinsville on 13 August.  The investigation into that incident and Heke’s movements since then is ongoing.

The arrest this morning was as a result of high quality investigation work from Police staff across the country. The safety of both Police staff and the public has been the priority throughout this operation.

Commissioner Mike Bush would like to extend his congratulations to our staff for bringing this to a safe conclusion and for their relentless search for Heke.
