Auckland City Police investigating further reports of prowler in Grey Lynn

Auckland Police are alerting people to be vigilant of home security as they investigate further reports of a prowler in the Grey Lynn area.
 
Around 11pm last night Police were called to a house in Grey Lynn where a caller reported a man using a cell phone to film the occupant of a house, through the window.
 
The offender fled. Police were deployed and a Police dog and handler attempted to track the man, however he was not able to be located.
 
Police have been investigating similar incidents in Grey Lynn in February and March, where a man was reported taking images of occupants late at night through their windows. On one occasion the man put his arm through an open window take images.
 
Detective Senior Sergeant Marcia Murray says an accurate description of the offender has not yet been obtained. “Because this is happening late at night it is dark and so not the best visibility,” says DSS Murray.
 
Police believe it is highly likely the offender is the same person. Police are following lines of inquiry but in the meantime are reminding people to remain vigilant of home security and to report all sightings of suspicious people in the area to 111.
 
“Unfortunately there are people who will take advantage of situations where windows aren’t adequately locked, or where curtains or blinds are open,” says DSS Murray.
 
“The weather remains quite warm so people may choose to keep windows open but we’d encourage everyone to think about putting windows on a security lock, just to be sure.”
