Canterbury Police yesterday executed a search warrant at a rural property in Magnet Bay, Banks Peninsula.
A number of items believed to be involved in the manufacture of methamphetamine were seized, as well as a variety of ammunition.
Testing on these items is being undertaken however results will not be known for some weeks.
The 38-year-old male occupant of the Magnet Bay property was arrested late last night by Christchurch Police.
Police attempted to pull him over while driving in New Brighton but he failed to stop and the unit pursued him for a time. He was arrested shortly before 11pm on Owles Terrace.
He appeared in Christchurch District Court this morning and was remanded in custody. He is facing the following charges:
-Possession of methamphetamine for supply
-Unlawful taking of a motor vehicle
-Dangerous driving x2
-Failing to stop for Police
-Possession of methamphetamine utensils
-Unlawful possession of an airgun
-Unlawful possession of ammunition
-Possession of an offensive weapon
Further charges, relating to the finding of what is believed to be a clandestine methamphetamine manufacturing laboratory at the Magnet Bay property, are likely to follow.
A further property, in New Brighton, connected to the person charged, was also searched under warrant this morning, and other enquiries are continuing.
As the matter is now before the courts Police cannot comment further.
