Charges laid in relation to central North Island incident

Six people have been charged in relation to yesterday’s events in the central North Island which prompted a major search operation.

All will appear in the Whanganui District Court this morning.

The charges laid at this time are:   

Male - 23
Attempted Murder
Using  a firearm against a law enforcement officer
Unlawful taking of a motor vehicle (x2)

Female - 22
Party to Using a firearm against a law enforcement officer
Unlawfully gets into a motor vehicle (x2)

Male - 17
Party to Using a firearm against a law enforcement officer
Unlawfully gets into a motor vehicle (x1)

Male - 17
Party to Using a firearm against a law enforcement officer
Unlawfully gets into a motor vehicle (x1)

Female - 39
Party to Using a firearm against a law enforcement officer
Unlawfully gets into a motor vehicle (x1)

Male - 28
Accessory after the fact

Further charges may be laid as the investigation progresses.

Police are still working to identify and locate one associate from the earlier incident. Police do not consider this individual poses any significant risk to the community.

Police would also like to clarify that one firearm was recovered from the vehicle which was stopped in Waiouru last night.
