Christchurch Police investigate serious assault

Christchurch Police are investigating after three people were injured in an incident in St Asaph Street shortly before 2.30am this morning.    
 
Police were initially called to reports of fighting on St Asaph Street, near the intersection with Manchester Street. 
 
Three people have been admitted to Christchurch Hospital as a result of injuries sustained. One person is in a serious condition, and two have moderate injuries. 
 
Police have been working at the scene overnight, with a cordon at and around 222 St Asaph Street. 
 
Diversions are in place and traffic cannot travel west on St Asaph Street between Manchester Street and Colombo Street. 
 
The public can expect to see a continued police presence at the scene today. 
 
A number of people were arrested at the scene for fighting, however enquiries are ongoing in relation to the injuries sustained by the three people who have been hospitalised. 
 
Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area who may have information that could assist our enquiries.
