Cordons lifted following incident in Whangarei

Police have opened the road in Maunu, Whangarei after it was closed earlier this afternoon when gun shots were heard in the area.

Following reports of gun shots Police placed cordons on State Highway 14 between Ngahere Drive and Western Hills Drive (State Highway 1) and two schools went into lock-down.

Shortly afterwards Police located a vehicle with two men and a firearm. Later this afternoon they located a third man on Willow Place. He had injuries that were not firearm related. He has been taken to hospital. Police are  carrying out inquiries into the incident and are talking to the three men.
