Cordons removed from Foxton street

1 min read

The cordons that were put in place in Foxton on Saturday evening have now been removed.

The cordons were established on Cook Street for Police to investigate reports of gunshots being heard in the town at about 7.30pm.

“Central District Police would like to thank local people for their patience and understanding while investigators conduct their enquiries,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Harrison.

“There will continue to be a number of investigators in Foxton as they complete their enquiries. Staff are conducting a thorough investigation to establish exactly what happened and who was responsible.

Separately, two men were to appear in Levin District Court today after Police stopped a vehicle on a rural Levin road on Sunday morning. They have been charged with possession of methamphetamine. A third man who was taken into custody at the same time is in Palmerston North Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

“As we have previously indicated, Police are continuing to explore if there is any connection to the stopping of the vehicle and the gunshots heard in Foxton.

“For many in the community, it will have been unusual for them to have seen a greater Police presence in their town. So following this event, we would like to reiterate that if anyone feels unsafe they should not hesitate to call 111.

“To help us with our enquiries, investigators would like to hear from anyone who can provide information on what happened prior to, during and after the incident,” says Mr Harrison.

Information can be given directly to the nearest Police station or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
