Counties Manukau Police will be putting its best foot forward in Manurewa next Friday for their annual Police District Pay Parade.
The event will be Police Commissioner Peter Marshall's last official Auckland appointment, with the appointment of the next Commissioner of Police, Mike Bush, announced lastweek.
Counties Manukau Police District Commander Superintendent John Tims says the occasion is an important tradition.
"The Pay Parade is an opportunity for us to present at our best for the community of Manurewa and the wider Counties Manukau District. Everyone in the District works together to achieve the best outcome and the parade will demonstrate that sense of unity.
"We're also looking forward to showing Commissioner Peter Marshall that Counties Manukau is a District that he can be proud of. We are proud to serve our community and it is that sense of pride that enables us to continue to make Counties Manukau a safe place for everyone."
The tradition of the Pay Parade comes from the requirement for Police officers to march to the local magistrate's office every fortnight in their dress uniform and pass inspection before getting their pay packet.
With over 400 staff members marching including uniformed Police officers, Detectives and Police employees, the parade will be held in Manurewa at 9:30am from outside Manurewa Central School, along Great South Road to Alfriston Road.
Also in attendance will be Minister of Justice and MP of Papakura Hon Judith Collins and Auckland Mayor Hon Len Brown, who will inspect the parade.
Counties Manukau Police encourage members of the public to come along to see the parade, which will take approximately 15 minutes and will include Police dogs and Police pipers.
