Auckland City District Commander Superintendent Karyn Malthus was last night awarded the Most Outstanding Female Investigator award by the Australasian Council of Women and Policing (ACWAP).

Superintendent Malthus was one of two recipients of the Most Outstanding Female Investigator award, presented at the 2017 International Women and Law Enforcement Conference in Cairns, Australia.

The award recognises her leadership for women and work leading Operation Clover, the review into Police handling of the ‘Roastbusters’ investigation. In accepting the award Karyn acknowleged the efforts of the investigation team.

“My congratulations to Superintendent Malthus, this award is testament to her achievements and ongoing leadership for women in Police,” says New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush.

Her nomination for the award cited her “impressive oversight, command and direction, mentoring and guidance” to her team in her leadership of the review.

It further recognised her work in other leadership roles, her mentorship for the development of women in Police and her active support for district Women’s Advisory Networks.

Each year ACWAP presents a number of awards for excellence in policing. The awards are an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the achievements of women and men who are contributing to improving policing and law enforcement and ensuring policing services are enhanced for women.

Two other New Zealand Police officers were nominated for awards; Detective Senior Sergeant Kylie Schaare, Crime Strategy Manager in Canterbury District, was nominated for Most Outstanding Female Leader award, and Sergeant Whiti Timutimu, a Maori Responsiveness Adviser based at Te Runanganui ō Ngati Porou in Gisborne, was nominated for the Most Outstanding Female Practitioner award.
