Police are attending a crash on State Highway 58, Paremata.
SH58 is closed in both directions and it is estimated there will be traffic delays of at least two hours.
Motorists should use SH1 and SH2 as alternative routes.
Diversions are in place at the SH2 and SH58 intersection in the Hutt Valley and at the Pauatahanui roundabout.
Five people have been injured and are being transported to hospital, with two in a serious condition and three in a moderate condition.
