At around 2.10pm this afternoon Police were called to the Westbound off-ramp at Lincoln Road on State Highway 16.
A vehicle had collided with the barrier and another car.
The elderly driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, died as a result of the collision.
The two occupants of the other vehicle were unhurt.
Police are still in the process of trying to notify the gentleman’s family.
The Waitemata District Serious Crash Unit is investigating, and at this early stage it is too soon to say what caused the crash.
The incident caused severe traffic delays but the on-ramp reopened to traffic just after 5pm.
