Fatal crash in New Plymouth

1 min read

New Plymouth Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred just before 7:30am this morning at the intersection of Egmont and Bishop Roads.

A large truck, a car, and a motorcycle were involved in the crash. The sole male occupant of the car died at the scene. Both the truck driver and the motorcyclist are uninjured.

"At this stage it is too early to determine what caused the crash but we are speaking with witnesses at the scene to get a clearer picture of what has happened. The scene has been cordoned off and the Serious Crash Unit will conduct a scene examination," says Sergeant George White of the New Plymouth Traffic Safety Group.

"I want to thank motorists for their patience as we work swiftly to clear the scene. Diversions are currently in place and we ask that people take alterative routes."

South-bound traffic is being diverted to Katere Road and north-bound to Dorset Road. Diversions are likely to remain in place for the next couple of hours.

Police will not release any further details about the deceased until his next of kin has been informed and formal identification completed.

No further information is available at this stage.
