Today at around midday Police were called to a situation in the Thames region where there was a significant threat of violence.

It was later established that a firearm was present, at which point the Armed Offenders Squad and the Police Negotiation Team were deployed to an address where the man at the centre of  the call out was located.

The man confronted police with a firearm and was subsequently shot.

Police have commenced an investigation into the shooting and advised the coroner. Police are also taking steps to advise the Independent Police Conduct Authority who are expected to undertake their own investigation.
