At approximately 4.40pm on Tuesday 8th September 2015, Ashburton Police were called to a motor vehicle crash at a one lane bridge on Maronan Road, near Hinds.
A truck has left the bridge and crashed into the riverbed, and the driver, a male in his 60’s was seriously injured. Rescue crews worked on the extraction of the driver for nearly an hour before he was pronounced dead at the scene.
There is a serious crash investigation underway and the road will be closed while police conduct a scene examination and remove the vehicle from the riverbed.
The name of the deceased will be released once police enquiries are complete and the next of kin has been advised.
