Almost 300 students were put through their paces at the annual Police Blue Light Physical Competency Test in New Plymouth on Tuesday.

The event, which has been running for more than 15 years, brought together 72 teams of four pupils – 288 in all!

It involved year seven and eight students from 13 different Taranaki schools.

After a practice run to familiarise themselves, the participants tackled the course.

The fastest times went to:

1st place – Highlands Intermediate School.

2nd place – Inglewood Primary School.

3rd place – Mangorei School.

The event is run by North Taranaki Blue Light committee, which would like to thank Police Youth Education Officer Ryan Daniel and St John Paramedic Megan Stewart.

Central Police District would like to mention the sponsors for their support: TSB Community Trust, Methanex, Top Stitch, Lion Foundation, and Southern Trust.

Blue Light looks forward to doing it all again next year.
