Police in Tauranga are appealing for information about a vehicle believed to have been used in a ram raid of a service station at the weekend.
A vehicle was driven into a side wall of the Z service station on SH2 at Whakamarama at approximately 10.25pm on Sunday, 28 September. At least two male offenders then stole a safe containing cash and a large quantity of cigarettes.
Police believe that a red Suzuki Escudo, registration FHP696, with large chunky tires was used to commit this offence. The vehicle had been stolen from the Bowen Town boat ramp during the day on Sunday.
As enquiries continued into the ram raid, police received a further report of a safe stolen during a burglary of the Omokoroa bowling club last night (Monday, 29 September). Two offenders and an unknown vehicle were reportedly involved in this incident and a link between this burglary and the ram raid has not been ruled out.
Police are keen to trace the movements of the red Suzuki Escudo since its theft on Sunday. Who has been driving it? Where is that vehicle now?
Police also want information about anyone in possession of large quantities or cigarettes; possibly trying to sell them on, or anyone who suddenly has large amount of cash.
