Mortar brought into Henderson Police Station

The Henderson Police station has now re-opened.

The bomb squad have assessed the mortar and it is described as an inert  World War Two HE (highly explosive) 60 millimetre mortar round.

The woman who brought it into the station had purchased it two years ago at a garage sale and is highly embarassed at this afternoon's outcome.

Police urge anyone who finds something of this nature to leave the item where it is and call the Police.

Police would rather come to your location, look at the item and find it is nothing to worry about, than have a very dangerous situation occur during transportation or at the Police station.

A photo of the mortar is attached to this media release on the Police website.
