Horowhenua Police encourage road users to report dangerous driving following fatal crashes

1 min read

Horowhenua Police are encouraging road users to report dangerous driving following two fatal crashes yesterday, November 27.

One person died on State Highway 1 in Ohau, south of Levin, after a crash between a car and a ute around 4:50pm yesterday.

Another person died in a serious crash on State Highway 1 in Manakau, involving a car and a heavy motor vehicle around 7.10pm.

In both crashes passengers were seriously injured.

This morning (November 28) there was a crash on Highway 1 in Otaki involving a car and truck. Luckily there were no injuries.

Senior Sergeant Sam Gilpin urges drivers to take responsibility for their driving and the safety of their passengers and other road users, as we all need to look after each other.

“The actions you take as a driver don’t only impact on you but on all the road users around you, and potentially those road users’ families and friends.

“While Police is committed to reducing death and injury on our roads we cannot do it alone.

“If you see any dangerous driving that could put lives at risk, please pull over to a safe spot and call 111.”

Drivers who report dangerous driving are reminded not to use cell phones while driving themselves says Senior Sergeant Gilpin.

“Using your phone while on the road could be the difference between life and death.”

For less serious instances of poor driving call *555.

Our message to all road users is clear: Don’t drive distracted, stay within your own lane, buckle up, watch your speed, and never drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs or fatigue.
