Incident at Invercargill school - Update 5

Police have concluded their investigation into the circumstances surrounding an incident at Sacred Heart School around 8.35am on Friday 18 September 2015, where a 10 year old boy was injured by an electric fence standard and suffered a serious head injury.

The injured boy was taken to Southland Hospital and later transferred to Dunedin where he underwent surgery. He is now recovering in the childrens Ward at Dunedin Hospital. His condition is improving slowly.

Enquires have established the 9 year old Sacred Heart student picked up the fence standard while walking to school that morning. The pair were playing together before school when the incident occurred.

Police and Victim Support staff continue to assist the families involved along with school staff and pupils.

No further police action will be taken in respect to this incident.
