Investigation into horse attack ongoing

1 min read

Please attribute to Inspector Matenga Gray, Dunedin Police:

Police received a report on Monday morning that a horse appeared to have been attacked around midnight, near the corner of Brown and Pitt Streets, Waitati.

Police have now spoken to the owner and have visited the scene where the attack happened.

A vet assessment revealed that the injuries to the horse appeared to have been caused by a blade or similar.

The horse has since died and we extend our sympathies to the owner in what is clearly an horrific attack on this beloved pet.

Police inquiries are ongoing, and as part of this we ask anyone who has any information that may assist Police to get in touch.

If anyone was in the area of Brown and Pitt Streets in Waitati around midnight on Sunday 17 and Monday 18 February and saw or heard anything unusual, they are encouraged to call Dunedin Police.

Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
