Kayaker missing on Lake Coleridge

1 min read

Canterbury Police SAR are leading a recovery operation after a kayaker went missing on Lake Coleridge on Saturday afternoon (4 April 2015).

Shortly after 4.40pm on 4 April 2015 a member of the public called Police reporting that a man had fallen out of his kayak and was struggling to stay afloat. They estimated him to be 150-200m from the shore.

A rescue helicopter was dispatched but the kayaker had disappeared from the surface when they arrived at around 5.15pm.  An aerial search of the area didn't result in any sightings of the man.

Canterbury Police SAR and Police Divers from Wellington have spent the last two days searching the area the man was last seen in and the surrounding shore.  Unfortunately the man has not been located so far. Canterbury Police SAR and the Police dive team will continue the underwater search tomorrow.

No details of the missing kayaker will be released at this time.

A further update will be provided at some time tomorrow (7 April 2015).

No further details will be released today.
