The Burt Munro Challenge is returning to our region and we’re asking all road users to ensure they think about everyone’s safety.
Running from this Thursday (Feb 8) in Invercargill, the four-day event attracts hundreds of motorcycles and support vehicles.
While it’s centred at Oreti Park Speedway and Oreti Beach, there’ll more bikes and vehicles around the entire area.
It’s going to be a busy place; riders, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should all look out for one another.
With so many more bikes and vehicles on the roads, we can all stay safe if we demonstrate awareness, patience and courtesy.
Remember to drive or ride to the conditions, wear the right gear or be properly restrained, and be free from drug, alcohol, tiredness and distractions.
Drivers, motorcyclists on the road are extremely vulnerable, so take extra time at intersections to check at least twice for their presence.
Riders, remember not to take any unnecessary risks, consider there’ll be drivers who’ll be unfamiliar with so many bikes on the road. Maximise your contrast against the environment and ensure you are positioned for drivers to have the best chance of seeing you. Remember you must have your headlight on at all times.
Anyone headed to the event should ensure they take regular rest stops to stay alert.
