Man to appear in court over Hastings aggravated robbery

1 min read

A 43-year-old local man will appear in the Hastings District Court on Thursday charged with the aggravated robbery of a King Street sports bar and TAB.

The central Hastings incident occurred on Tuesday 7 June 2016.

Detective Sergeant Craig Vining of Hawkes Bay CIB says two men, including the man charged, entered the bar and threatened staff with a knife.

“An employee was assaulted during the robbery and cash was taken.

“This has been a lengthy investigation and it is extremely satisfying to place one of the offenders before the court.”

The team continues to follow strong lines of enquiry in relation to the co-offenders, one of whom was a likely get-away driver.

Mr Vining says, “We believe one of the offenders has gone on to commit another local aggravated robbery in early July and we will continue to build a case to ensure the remaining offenders are prosecuted.

“In recent weeks, Police has successfully identified and charged various offenders with robberies that have occurred throughout the region.

“We want to thank the public and the media for their ongoing assistance, information and support.”

Information on these or any other criminal incidents should be reported to Hawkes Bay Police on 06831 0700.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
