Man arrested for alleged attempted kidnapping in Christchurch

Canterbury Police arrested a Christchurch man in relation to an alleged attempted kidnapping of a woman in New Brighton at approximately 8.30am this morning (18 December 2014).

The 37 year old woman is reported to have been walking along Marine Parade in New Brighton this morning when a man driving a navy blue 1994  Nissan Avenir station wagon has stopped his car nearby.

Police have concerns that the man may have been in this location in the days leading up to this alleged incident.

On this occasion he is understood to have spoken to the victim through the passenger side window.

Police investigations into this incident are ongoing.

The 38 year old man is charged with Attempted Kidnapping and will appear in Christchurch District Court on 23 December 2014.

Police urge anyone who has seen this vehicle in the New Brighton or wider Christchurch area this morning or on any other occasion to contact them on 03 363 7670 as they may have information that will assist with the investigation.
