Man charged following two burglaries in Selwyn

Canterbury Police have arrested a 24 year old man in relation to the unlawful taking of a vehicle and two burglaries in the Selwyn area early this morning.

Police were alerted to a ram raid style burglary at Hororata Motors at 3.20am this morning where the cash register and cash was taken.  An hour later, at 4.20am, Police were made aware that the West Melton Tavern had been broken into and the cash register and a quantity of alcohol had been taken.

Police patrol staff stopped a suspicious vehicle with front-end damage on West Coast Road near Yaldhurst at 4.40am which was identified as a  white Ford sedan that had been stolen from Rolleston at approximately 1am.

The 24 year old man will appear in Christchurch District Court this morning on a number of charges including an Unlawful Takes Motor Vehicle charge and two burglary related charges.  There was also an active Warrant To Arrest the man.

Canterbury Police Scene of Crime officers  will be conducting a scene examination of the Hororata and West Melton properties this morning.

Police investigations are continuing.
