Please attribute to Senior Sergeant Jeff Veale:

Police were called to Taranaki Base Hospital at approximately 9:35pm tonight after receiving reports of gun shots being heard.

A man has received an injury to his leg in an altercation with a group of men in the hospital carpark. He is now being treated at the hospital.

Efforts are underway to locate the other men involved in this incident as it is understood they have left the scene.

At this stage, we believe the parties are known to each other and for that reason, don't believe there is any risk to the public.

A number of Police are at the scene making enquiries, the hospital is operating as normal.
