Man taken to hospital following two vehicle crash on Johns Road

Canterbury Police were alerted to a crash involving two cars on Johns Road, near Groynes Drive, at  6.45pm this evening (5 February 2015). 

The two vehicles, a grey Mazda 626 and a dark grey Toyota Hilux were travelling along Johns Road.  Witness report that the Mazda has collided with the rear of the Toyota. 

The driver of the Mazda was uninjured and fled the scene on foot.  The other driver, an off-duty ambulance officer, was taken to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries.

After a short search the uninjured driver was located and arrested nearby.

A 29 year old man has been charged with careless driving causing injury, failing to remain to ascertain injury, refused request for blood and assaults Police officer.  He is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday 9 February 2015.

Police investigations into the crash are continuing.

Canterbury Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and was unable to wait at the scene to contact them by calling 03 363 7400, option 5.
