Massey University in Palmerston North evacuated due to threat

1 min read

Palmerston North Police have evacuated parts of Massey University campus after a threat to staff at the registry building at the Manawatu Campus was received.

Police take these threats extremely seriously and for safety of people in the area, evacuated parts of the campus while they conducted a thorough search.
Police have cleared the area and while they are satisfied there is no direct threat to members of the university, there will be an increase in security over the next few days.

Palmerston North Police will be coordinating the investigation and have advised that although the matter is taken seriously we are mindful of threats made against Victoria and Otago Universities in the last few days.

The public is asked to avoid the university area for the next few hours while Police conduct their search.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have information regarding these threats. They can contact Senior Constable Carnegie at 06 3513600 or anonymously at Crimestoppers 0800 555 111
