Members of the public help following crash, Lake Dunstan

1 min read

Alexandra Police would like to thank members of the public who assisted following a crash this evening.

At around 5.15pm a ute being driven along State Highway 8 towards Cromwell crashed into Lake Dunstan.

Members of the public in the area at the time raced to the driver’s aid and helped get him out of the vehicle and out of the lake.

The driver, a man in his 60’s, was the sole occupant of the ute.

He was taken to Dunstan Hospital in a serious condition.

Constable Leon Burdett says the members of the public did a wonderful job helping the man before emergency services arrived.

“I’d just really like to thank the group who rushed to the man’s aid and got him out of the lake, we’re really grateful,” he says.

The ute has been removed from the lake and an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
