Mid-Canterbury truckies advised to secure their heavy vehicles

1 min read

Ashburton Police are asking locals to ensure their heavy vehicles are secure and to report any suspicious behaviour, after a number of battery thefts this week.

Since Monday 17 September, Police have been made aware of five instances where batteries have been taken from heavy vehicles.

Some were from vehicles parked at work sites in industrial areas, and others were from vehicles parked on main roads in town.

Constable Caitlin Brown says it's important to report to Police any suspicious behaviour observed around vehicles.

"Ashburton is a close-knit community, and we would encourage people to please let us know if they see anything or anyone unusual," she says.

"Any information you provide to Police could help prevent another theft or other crime happening.

"If you see a crime taking place, call 111 immediately with as much detail as possible.

"If you are the victim of crime, please let Police know as soon as you can, so we can further build up a picture of what is happening in our community."
