Napier Police recover stolen goods thanks to local tip-off

1 min read

Thanks to a tip-off from a Bluff Hill local, recovered gear has been returned to its owners before they knew it was missing.

Police received a report at around 3.15am, 17 October that two men were on Roslyn Road, Bluff Hill looking into vehicles.

Upon arriving the officers found two men hiding behind a car on nearby Bay View Road, screwdrivers in hand.

Both men were taken into custody.

Following further enquiries the officers located a stash of gear including an electric bike, chainsaw, leaf blower and multiple tools.

Both men are due to appear in Napier District Court on Wednesday 24 October charged with burglary and possessing an offensive weapon.

Inspector Harry Harvey, Eastern Deployment Manager says “It’s a great outcome to be able to pick up these offenders so quickly.

“Thanks to the keen eye of the local who alerted us the stolen gear is now back with its rightful owners.

“This is a great example to look out for your neighbours and let each other know if you notice anything unusual.

“Importantly, we ask residents to not put themselves in danger or take the law into their own hands if confronted by offenders – but to instead contact local Police.

“If you see a crime taking place call 111 immediately.”
