Nine arrested in Netherby, Ashburton

1 min read

Nine people were arrested in Netherby, Ashburton this morning, following a serious incident in Mona Square on Saturday 18 June in which a group of people with weapons attacked two others from a rival group.

Eight of those arrested will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday 23 June.  One person has been bailed and will appear in the Ashburton District Court at a later date.

Saturday's incident is the third in recent times involving serious disorder from these two groups.  Police will not tolerate this type of behaviour in our communities and today's arrests show that those involved in such incidents will be held accountable for their actions.

As the matter is now before the courts, no further comment can be made at this time.
