On Friday 9 December the new Napier Police Station will be officially opened by Police Minister Hon Judith Collins and Commissioner Mike Bush. One of the highlights will be the presence of over 60 students from Maraenui Bilingual School welcoming guests with a Haka Powhiri.

Construction began on the new $5.5 million station in April which is phase one of a $24 million investment by Police into the Hawke’s Bay Area. Phase two is already underway and will see a multi-storey Eastern District and Hawke's Bay Area police headquarters in Hastings.

Hawke’s Bay Area Commander Inspector Tania Kura says she is excited about the new facilities for staff and the public. “A great deal of emphasis has gone into improving the options around working with victims and witnesses alongside an inclusive work space to fit modern policing practices. I look forward to hosting the public during an Open Day on Sunday 11 December between 10am and 2pm,”  she says.

The station opening ceremony will take place on Friday 9 December at 10:15am outside the front entrance on Dalton Street. The ceremony will be attended by the Honourable Judith Collins, Minister of Police, Police Commissioner Mike Bush, local government and community leaders, representatives from other emergency services and non-Government agencies.
