Overdue boat in Catlins area - Update

1 min read

Southland Police and Marine SAR are continuing their search for an overdue boat in the Catlins area after not having located anything overnight and search efforts being hampered by fog.

This morning, NZ Police, NZ Rescue Coordination Centre, Marine SAR and a number of volunteers have 7 boats, 10 land search teams, a fixed wing aircraft, and a helicopter currently working on the search with approximately 60 persons involved.

At about 6.00pm last night, Police were advised of an overdue boat in the Catlins area where a 77 year-old man and a 60 year-old woman from Owaka have not returned from their fishing trip off the Owaka coast.

They were fishing in their silver 5.2 metre pontoon style Kiwikraft boat, named KRYSTELLA, and left the Catlins area around 8.30am yesterday morning, 16 September 2015.

The names of the missing persons will be released once all family members have been advised.
