Police appeal for information on Papamoa whale bone theft

Information sought regarding man who took whale bone

Papamoa Police are seeking any information regarding a man seen taking the jaw bone of a beached whale. 

The man was seen taking the bone on Papamoa Beach near the Kaituna River on 15 February 2018. 

Taking the bone is an offence under the Marine Mammals Protection Act.

He is described as being 30-40 years old with tattoos on his upper left leg, face and neck. He was driving a Blue Toyota Hilux ute with the front registration plate taped over.

Police urge anyone who recognises this man or his truck, or anyone who witnessed this incident to contact Papamoa Police on 07 572 2440 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
