Counties Manukau Police are encouraging anyone who may have been a victim of a convicted sex offender to contact Police, following today’s sentencing of Bruce Anderson.
Bruce Anderson, 58, was sentenced to four years and nine months this morning in the Manukau District Court, after pleading guilty to three representative and two specific sexual abuse charges.
The charges related to sexual offending against two young boys aged 11 and 13, in the early 1990’s. Bruce Anderson lived in the Northland town of Tinopai during this time, where he worked as a dairy farmer.
Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum, of Counties Manukau Police, says Police believe Anderson has more victims.
“This has been a lengthy investigation and based on the information we have gathered through the course of our enquiry, we believe there are likely to be more victims out there. People may not know that there is no time limit for reporting a sexual crime, it doesn’t matter if it happened yesterday, last week, last year or a decade ago” says Detective Inspector Lendrum.
Bruce Anderson moved to Auckland around 1994-1995, he spent some time working on the North Shore and has spent the last 10 or so years in Papakura.
“Contacting Police doesn’t automatically mean it has to go to court; there are many options we have depending on the victim’s wishes. At the very least, we can provide people with access to specialist services such as counselling” says Detective Inspector Lendrum.
