Police and the Armed Offenders Squad are attending a firearms incident in Levin this afternoon.
A cordon has been established in the areas of Liverpool Street and Balmoral Street and Police ask that members of the public avoid the area.
Police are working with staff at Taitoko School, which is near the site of the incident, and have asked that students remain within the school grounds.
Police would like to reassure the community that we do not believe there to be a risk to members of the public.
No further information in regard to the incident is available at this time as it is an ongoing situation.
